Dunce’s newest collection, Currents, is a search for that feeling of moving with, rather than against, the flow. The series is defined by Dunce’s approach to silkscreen as a painter rather than a printmaker. Ink drifts across rough canvas, textures emerge unpredictably, and images layer to evoke the push and pull of natural forces.
The resulting works reflect movement, turbulence, and brief moments of calm. A reminder that in a world obsessed with speed, stillness is a form of rebellion – and if you can’t sit still, move with the current.
Dunce is a visual artist based in Calgary, Canada, whose artwork is grounded in the countercultural voice of street art.Originally from the Okanagan, Dunce spent years living in the UK, specifically London and Manchester, where he was surrounded by the gritty street art scene, which had an immeasurable impact on his work.
In recent years, his practice has evolved beyond traditional street art into a studio-based approach. His work blends silkscreen, found imagery, and collage into large-format paintings. Continuously pushing the limits of his practice, Dunce employs street art not simply as an aesthetic, but as a mindset, using it as a lens through which to view the world.
As his practice evolves, Dunce remains committed to exploring the intersections of art and popular culture, challenging his audience to question the world around them.
